| Bio: | If I can be anywhere, anytime, I prefer to be in Tokyo in the spring, prowling through Ichome Shōtengai at Decks Tokyo Beach in Odaiba. Or in hiking above Kita-Kamakura in the autumn. Or bicycling around Amsterdam's Grachtengordel in the summer, or celebrating winter's Kaarsjesavond in Gouda.
I love the smells of foods with lemon zest in them, of vanilla, tuberoses, and freshly washed and dried hair. I love the flavor of slightly charred, slowly-roasted vegetables with caramelized shallots. My taste for natto is growing, especially wrapped in shiso leaves, dipped in tempura batter and deep-fried.
Few things make me happier than listening to the hybrid classical/jazz instrumental music of the 1950s and '60s that feature pizzicato strings, vibes and flute. The music that Elmer Bernstein did for the films of Charles & Ray Eames is a good example of this, as are the soundtracks to most of Jacques Tati's films.
I am infatuated with the optimism of the 1950s and '60s, and the utopian visions of that era. I would give anything to be able to live in that time and to prevent the late-'70s and onward from ever happening. But given the impossibility of that, I'll settle for reconstructing as much of it as possible in the present.
I don't own a TV or radio, and I've never had a cell phone. I wear only vintage clothes. I study Aiki Jujutsu (the traditional Japanese form of ju-jitsu) but I have no interest in spectator sports, team sports or sports fandom. I don't believe in any supernatural beings (other than the Flying Spaghetti Monster).
